And I’ll lie too and say I don’t mind
And as we seek so shall we find
And when you’re feeling open I’ll still be here
But not without a certain degree of fear
Of what will be with you and me
I still can see things hopefully
But you
Why you wanna give me a run-around
Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up
When all it does is slow me down
And shake me and my confidence
About a great many things
But I’ve been there I can see it cower
Like a nervous magician waiting in the wings
Of a bad play where the heroes are right
And nobody thinks or expects too much
And Hollywood’s calling for the movie rights
Singing hey babe let’s keep in touch
Hey baby let’s keep in touch

Just press play okay. I bet most of you are too young to remember this song
DONT BRING THIS SHIT BACK OK
UH I HATE YOU SHUT IT UP
OUT OF THE WAY BITCHES IT’S MY JAM!

Looking back at sunsets on the East side
We lost track of the time
Dreams aren’t what they used to be
Some things sat by so carelessly
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Since it’s someone’s birthday today I was reminded of this song. Anytime there is a birthday that is had during an SCA event, this song gets sung and it’s generally pretty well-known. It’s sort of a tradition that predates the group, since I have also heard it sung at the Renaissance Fair in Maryland & Virginia.
I can’t record myself singing this, so I had to find a video by someone else. This song is The Birthday Dirge (& obviously meant as a joke)!
The lyrics (in case they are a little hard to make out) are:
Happy Birthday!
Gloom, destruction, and despair - people dying everywhere
Happy Birthday!
Hear the women wail and weep, kill them all but save the sheep
Happy Birthday!
May the candles on your cake, burn like cities in your wake
Happy Birthday!
Now you’ve reached the age you are, your demise cannot be far
Happy Birthday!
I have heard people add more lines but the only one I can remember goes;
We have linen white as cloud, so we start to make your shroud
Happy Birthday!
